Malt Kiln Cottage is a beautiful dog friendly cottage in the village of Whittington, full of charm and interesting features, with a twelfth century castle on its doorstep. Two dogs are welcome, and there is a dog wash station outside for muddy paws, which is the first thing anybody coming back from a walk will be glad of.
Right by the back door, an enclosed garden with its own table and chairs takes the morning coffee, and the dogs take their first look round. Walk on through and there is a secret, enclosed garden among the trees, with room for dining outdoors and a wood fired hot tub, logs provided, for the evening. It is the kind of hidden corner that two dogs and their people quickly decide is theirs for the week.
Indoors, the back door leads into a creatively planned kitchen diner, light flooding in, with an electric range oven and all the thoughtful little extras, and its window table is where holiday plans get made over dinner. The lounge has music, a Smart TV and the glow of a feature gas fire in wood burner style, with the dogs curled up by it long before the opening credits. Upstairs are the king size, with its own TV, the spacious single and the bathroom.
There is plenty for the dogs to walk close by, with footpaths and trails including Offa's Dyke and the Tanat Valley. Oswestry is a short drive away, with a town trail, a farmers market and a well preserved Iron Age hillfort with marvellous views, and Chirk, Llangollen, Ellesmere, Shrewsbury, Welshpool and Chester all make good days out.
