There is a purpose built dog shower at the front of Summerfield Bungalow, which says a good deal about who it is for. Four people and one dog stay in this dog friendly bungalow at Wigglesworth, a small village between Settle and Clitheroe on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, with countryside views on every side.

It is all on one floor. A wood burner and a big sofa anchor the open plan living room, first logs included, and the kitchen and dining area share the same space, so the evening happens in one room with the dog in the middle of it. Two bedrooms lead off, one a super king on zip and link beds that can be twins, the other a king, and there is a wet room with a walk in shower. Underfloor heating runs throughout, which a dog on the floor will notice quickly.

Round the back, reached from the side of the house, is an enclosed garden with a patio. That is the dog's garden. The land outside it belongs to the farm and is not for public use, so the walks start a few minutes away on the public footpaths, and the routine becomes clear by the second morning: out along the lanes, back through the dog shower, and into the garden with a coffee while the dog dries off.

The Forest of Bowland is on one side, with the dog friendly trails of Gisburn Forest and the circuit of Stocks Reservoir close by, and the Dales on the other, where Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are within a short drive. Settle and Skipton, gateway to the Dales, both make easy trips with the dog.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Mersyke Farm - Summerfield Bungalow dog friendly?

Very much so — the bungalow was clearly designed with dogs in mind. There's a purpose built dog shower at the front of the property, an enclosed rear garden for the dog to use, and underfloor heating throughout, which any dog who likes a warm spot on the floor will appreciate.

  • Are dogs allowed at Mersyke Farm - Summerfield Bungalow year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth checking directly with the property for availability at the time you'd like to visit. What we can say is that the setup — wood burner, underfloor heating, dog shower — suits a stay in any season.

  • What should I know before visiting Mersyke Farm - Summerfield Bungalow with my dog?

The bungalow accommodates one dog, so it's worth confirming that before booking if you have more than one. The farm land surrounding the property isn't for public use, so walks start a few minutes away on the public footpaths — but with Gisburn Forest, Stocks Reservoir, Malham Cove and the Yorkshire Dales all close by, there's no shortage of great routes to explore.
