Swynnerton, Staffordshire
A fully fenced off grid cabin on the edge of ancient Staffordshire woodland, with a sunken bath on a private deck and parkland walks straight from the door, dogs very welcome.
Fully enclosed. For a lot of dog owners that is the only phrase that matters, and Mizar has it: a fenced cabin on the edge of ancient woodland near Swynnerton, where the door can stand open and the dog can wander the deck without anyone watching the gate. It is one of the most relaxed dog friendly stays Shacks run.
You leave the car and walk in through the trees, about 300m, and the cabin appears in a secluded spot with a view out over the field in front. Cows sometimes graze that field, but the path in is laid out to avoid it, so the dog's arrival does not involve a standoff with a heifer.
Inside there is a double bed, a stove and shelves of books and games, and outside the sunken bath sits on a private deck under the trees. It suits a couple who want to do very little with a dog who agrees. There is no mains power and no traffic, and after a day in the woods the only sound at night is the dog turning round twice before it settles.
Swynnerton Old Park and the Hanchurch Hills paths start at the cabin, with miles of woodland and parkland walking that a dog can take every morning without repeating. Two pubs are a short stroll away, the Fitzherbert Arms and the Mainwaring Arms, and both let dogs in.

Book with ShacksFrequently Asked Questions
Is Mizar dog friendly?
Mizar is genuinely built around dogs being there. The cabin is fully enclosed and fenced, so your dog can roam the deck freely without you needing to watch the gate, and Swynnerton Old Park and the Hanchurch Hills are right on the doorstep for woodland and parkland walks. Two nearby pubs, the Fitzherbert Arms and the Mainwaring Arms, both welcome dogs too.
Are dogs allowed at Mizar year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, and as an off-grid woodland cabin it's set up for dogs as a matter of course rather than an afterthought. For confirmation of availability at specific times of year, it's worth checking directly with Shacks, who run the property.
What should I know before visiting Mizar with my dog?
The walk in from the car to the cabin is around 300 metres through the trees, so you'll be carrying anything you bring, including dog kit. The route is laid out to avoid the field where cows sometimes graze, which is a thoughtful touch if your dog finds livestock exciting. There's no mains power and no road noise, so it's a genuinely quiet stay — good for dogs who settle well in calm, natural surroundings.
