Crantock is a small village on the north Cornish coast with an old thatched pub at its heart, and North Shore is a detached, dog friendly house a few minutes' walk from its wide sandy beach. It sleeps eight across four bedrooms and takes two dogs.

The garden is a lawned courtyard, closed in all round, with paving, chairs and a barbecue on it, reached through French doors from the living and dining room. That is where the dogs spend the time between walks, and where eight people take their meals outside. Inside there is more room than the number of guests needs. Two living rooms, a conservatory, a kitchen with its own television, and a utility room where the sandy towels and the dryer can meet. A separate toilet downstairs saves a trip up.

Upstairs, the main bedroom has a kingsize bed and its own shower room, there is a double, and two twin rooms for children or friends, with a family bathroom. The two living rooms are the real luxury for a group: one for the film, one for the quiet, and a dog in each.

The beach is the point of the place. It runs wide between the headland and the dunes, and on one side it is bordered by the estuary of the River Gannel, so there is moving river water as well as sea. For a dog who swims, that is worth knowing. The whole area is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the coast path heads south from the village over the headland to Holywell Bay and the long sands at Perranporth.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is North Shore dog friendly?

Yes, North Shore welcomes up to two dogs. The enclosed lawned courtyard garden is a great spot for them to relax between walks, and with Crantock beach just a few minutes away, there's plenty of adventure on the doorstep.

  • Are dogs allowed at North Shore year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given that it's set up with dogs firmly in mind — enclosed garden, beach access, utility room for drying off — it feels like a place that's used to canine guests year round.

  • What should I know before visiting North Shore with my dog?

The property takes a maximum of two dogs, so do bear that in mind when booking. The enclosed courtyard garden gives them a safe outdoor space, and the utility room is handy for dealing with wet or sandy dogs after a day on Crantock beach. The beach itself sits alongside the River Gannel estuary, so dogs who enjoy a swim have both river and sea to choose from.
