1 / 18Old Henhouse Hideaway
Llanvihangel Crucorney, Monmouthshire
A converted henhouse for four on a farm in the Brecon Beacons near Abergavenny, with mountain views, walks from the door, underfloor heating, a large garden and two sociable dogs welcome.
Old Henhouse Hideaway is a secluded converted henhouse on farmland within the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Sugar Loaf and Skirrid making an amazing backdrop and country and mountain walks right on the doorstep. It sleeps four, and this dog friendly hideaway welcomes two dogs that get along well with other canine and human guests, as the garden shares a boundary with the property next door. Powerful, intimidating breeds are not permitted.
Inside, the 2017 conversion is a marvellous surprise, light and airy with a contemporary finish. The open plan living area, beneath its double height ceiling, has leather seating round a large coffee table for games or the Smart TV, a kitchen with a double oven and induction hob, and a dining table with benches by bi-fold doors to the outside world. Underfloor heating keeps it warm at any time of year, and the dogs will soon have their favourite spot on the floor.
Both bedrooms share the ground floor: the master king comes with a shower room en suite, and the super king, which can become a twin, has its own bathroom. The furniture and the bedrooms are off limits to dogs. Beyond the bi-fold doors lies a large garden, its patio set with furniture and a lawn further out, and it is where the dogs head first when the doors fold back.
Footpaths lead from here to four pubs, from the oldest pub in Wales to a Michelin starred restaurant, which makes for the best kind of dog walk. Abergavenny is 3 miles away with its shops, markets and food festivals, and the castles at Grosmont, White Castle, Raglan and Skenfrith are all near.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Old Henhouse Hideaway dog friendly?
Yes, Old Henhouse Hideaway welcomes up to two dogs. The property has a large enclosed garden that's out of sight from surrounding land, and the underfloor heating means dogs will find a warm spot on the stone floor rather than competing for a radiator.
Are dogs allowed at Old Henhouse Hideaway year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but we'd recommend confirming directly with the property before booking to make sure nothing has changed.
What should I know before visiting Old Henhouse Hideaway with my dog?
The enclosed garden and bi-fold doors make this a particularly good fit for dog owners — you can head out muddy and come straight back in without any fuss. Nearby, the Vale of Ewyas offers a quiet single-track lane running 12 miles north through sheep country, with the ruins of Llanthony Priory partway along where dogs are welcome to wander the arches.
