Chatsworth House, its gardens and its farm shop sit on the fringes of Baslow, and Old Well Cottage hides away in the village, sleeping four in dog friendly comfort; two dogs can come along, and there is an enclosed garden plus a glorious original open fire for the evenings after the hills.
The entrance hall takes the boots and coats, and the cosy lounge has that open fire, comfy reading chairs for a good book and a TV, and two dogs will have the hearth to themselves before long. Beyond, a spacious open plan kitchen diner is decorated in neutral tones around a traditional dining table, and the conservatory has comfy seating and doors to the garden, a warm spot for watching the birds. A ladder over the stairs climbs to a sleeping area in the eaves for adventurous children.
The front garden is enclosed and stone paved with mature planting, and it leads through to the back, where a table, outdoor seating and a BBQ make the most of the evenings with the dogs at your feet. Bikes have a home behind a locked gate.
Walks run from the village into the Chatsworth parklands, so the dogs can spend their first morning there. For something more challenging, Curbar Edge and the Dark Peak beyond give rewarding views over the countryside, and back in Baslow there is a range of cafes and restaurants to choose from.
