Book now

Hinderwell is a village of tea rooms, a couple of small pubs and a chip shop on the North York Moors coast, a mile inland from Runswick Bay. Pebble Cottage is in the middle of it, a dog friendly cottage for five with two dogs welcome and a front garden, enclosed and full of flowers, that is the first thing anyone sees.

There is decking in that front garden for a morning coffee, and two dogs can potter out there while the village goes about its business beyond the fence. At the back is a second, smaller enclosed yard, so there is somewhere for the dogs on both sides of the house. Indoors, the front room, for living and dining, has a leather suite in front of a wood burner, with the first fuel included, and the kitchen is separate and fully equipped.

The cottage rises over three floors. A king bedroom, a single with a trundle bed and the shower room are on the first floor, and a double under the beams takes the top. It is a family house with two dogs in it: boots by the burner, the dogs claiming the leather sofa, and somebody sent out for fish and chips.

Runswick Bay is within walking distance, a curve of sand below a village of red roofs, and from there the Cleveland Way follows the cliff tops north and south, so the dogs are best kept close on that path. Staithes, with its narrow streets and its painters, is a few minutes north, and Whitby and its abbey are a short drive the other way.
