1 / 20Raise View
Alston, Cumbria
A three bedroom stone house for six on the edge of Alston with an en-suite for every bedroom, an enclosed lawn and decking and a hot tub, two dogs welcome.
Six people, no queue for a bathroom, and a dog friendly house where all three bedrooms have one of their own. The garden is enclosed, lawn and decking, with a hot tub out on the deck, and two super kings and a twin sleep the six. Raise View is a refurbished stone place on the edge of Alston taking two dogs, and there is a great deal more open country than fence in this corner of Cumbria.
The living space is tiered, which is unusual and works. Kitchen at the top, one step down to the dining table, three more into the lounge, all a single room. A wood burner sits raised in a stone fireplace at the lounge end with an arched window above it. Patio doors go straight out from the dining level, so a dog crosses between table and lawn without waiting for anybody.
Families are the fit, or two couples with a child. Three en-suites means the bathroom problem does not arise, and the twin was plainly meant for children with a super king either side of it. Both of those zip apart into twins if the party changes shape. Six people and two dogs end up on the decking regardless, because that is where the fells are.
Alston has the South Tyne below it and the Pennine Way over the top, and Garrigill is 4 miles upstream, a green with a church and a row of cottages and very little else, which is the appeal. The path between sticks to the river and dogs are loose on most of it. This is North Pennines country, bare and high and thinly settled, dark enough at night that the stars arrive as a surprise.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Raise View dog friendly?
Yes, Raise View welcomes up to two dogs. The garden is fully enclosed with lawn and decking, and the patio doors open directly from the dining area onto it, so dogs can move freely between inside and outside without any fuss.
Are dogs allowed at Raise View year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given the nature of the property and the surrounding North Pennines countryside, it feels well set up for dogs at any time of year.
What should I know before visiting Raise View with my dog?
The enclosed garden gives dogs a safe place to roam freely from the moment you arrive, and the surrounding area is superb for walking — the riverside path from Alston to Garrigill (around 4 miles) allows dogs off the lead for most of the route. The North Pennines is open, thinly settled country, so there's no shortage of space to explore beyond the garden gate.
