Rampsbeck House is a spacious, traditional Lakeland home at Watermillock overlooking Ullswater, and it welcomes six guests and two dogs. Fantastic walks begin on the doorstep, around the lake, through woodland and up Gowbarrow Fell, and back at this dog friendly house there is a large enclosed garden with views of the lake.
The house is beautifully presented, keeping plenty of original features alongside calm, neutral decor. Coats and boots stay in the welcoming entrance hall, and the spacious lounge beyond has an ornate fireplace with an electric fire, plump sofas and armchairs, and French doors onto the patio, a way out the dogs will learn quickly. The stylish kitchen has chrome units, a flagstone floor and pendant lighting, meals are eaten with a view over the lake in the formal dining room, and upstairs are three elegantly presented doubles, and one of the three has an en suite bathroom.
The large enclosed garden is a peaceful spot for an afternoon, with a large lawn, mature trees, a picnic area and fabulous views of the lake. Two dogs on the lawn, lunch on the picnic table and Ullswater laid out beyond is the house at its best.
The lake is 9 miles long and nearby footpaths set out round it, with picnics on the lakeshore and Ullswater's famous steamers connecting to walking routes at Aira Force, Glenridding and Pooley Bridge. For higher ground with the dogs, the High Street ridge can be tackled from Pooley Bridge or Howtown, with marvellous views from the top. Penrith has its market town shops and ruined castle, and Dalemain and Carlisle are within reach.
