Rivington is a detached, single storey dog friendly cottage set back above Carbis Bay, and everything in it happens on one level. Two bedrooms, a large walk in shower room, high ceilings and French doors out to the grass, with one dog on the booking.
There is an outside tap and hose fixed at the cottage for washing salt off a dog, the sort of detail that quietly decides where a week like this gets spent. The garden is private and enclosed, part laid to lawn and part gravelled, with furniture and a shed holding windbreaks and bodyboards for anyone who wants them. A wood burner takes care of the evenings.
Late afternoon, back up from Porthkidney with a dog carrying most of the estuary in its coat: out comes the hose, thirty seconds of protest, and the sand stays outside where it belongs. Porthkidney is a mile off, a long flat run of sand where the Hayle estuary meets the sea, dunes behind it and room enough that a dog never has to be the closest one to anybody. The coast path towards Zennor starts about the same distance out and is a harder, finer piece of walking. St Ives is near enough to walk into and far enough to leave again when it fills.
