Robbers Cottage is a lovely traditional cottage on the 3000 acre Ellemford Country Estate near Duns, in a wonderful rural setting with views over the Whiteadder River. Four can stay in this dog friendly cottage with two dogs, and the large enclosed garden is a lovely one for children and dogs.
The lounge is light and bright, with a wood burner, its first basket of logs provided, and views across the river, and the fire is where the two dogs will settle in the evenings. Off the front hallway the snug doubles as a games room, with a PlayStation and more river views, and the kitchen diner has a rear door straight out to the garden.
Outside, that garden has a patio, furniture and a BBQ, with space for children and dogs alike. A spacious double and a lovely twin take the first floor, both with river and countryside views. Inside, the dogs stay downstairs. Between July and February they must be kept on a lead, and fields with animals in them should not be walked through.
Trout and salmon fishing is available on the Whiteadder, the River Tweed is within easy reach, and the Southern Upland Way runs close to the estate for a long day out with the dogs. Duns has shops, cafes, pubs and a museum dedicated to the motor racing legend Jim Clark, and Manderston house, close by, holds the only silver staircase in the world. The cliffs at nearby St Abbs are a nature reserve where thousands of seabirds nest and seals are common.
