Romary

Bakewell, Derbyshire

A two bedroom cottage for four at Bakewell, all on one level with underfloor heating throughout, an enclosed garden and two dogs welcome.

Book now

Everything is on one level, and underfloor heating runs through the whole of it. Romary takes four at Bakewell, dog friendly, a double, a twin, one bathroom, and an enclosed garden with a picnic bench standing in it. Two dogs are welcome. For an animal past managing stairs, a flat floor with warmth coming up through it is about as good as a holiday let gets.

Underfloor heating is the fitting dog owners notice and nobody else ever mentions. A soaked coat dries where the dog is already lying rather than in front of something, and the floor holds its warmth all night without anybody keeping a fire in. There is a flame-effect fire in the living room for the look of the thing, and a bike shed outside for anyone who has brought wheels.

The garden is enclosed with that picnic bench in the middle, which is a more useful piece of furniture than a table and chairs when four people and two dogs use the same door all afternoon. Bakewell is close enough to walk into and small enough to finish with by lunch. What happens after that is generally decided by the dogs.

Stanton Moor stands 3.2 miles off, gritstone and heather with the Nine Ladies in a clearing near the middle of it, nine short stones in a ring and a tenth set apart from them. Bradford Dale at Youlgreave runs the other way, a clear limestone stream between stepping stones and the ponds of old mills. Two dogs get the moor, where nothing is fenced and the going underfoot is soft.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Romary dog friendly?

Yes, Romary welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage is all on one level with underfloor heating throughout, which makes it a particularly good fit for older or less mobile dogs who struggle with stairs.

  • Are dogs allowed at Romary year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the setup — enclosed garden, warm floors, single-storey layout — suits a dog-friendly stay at any time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting Romary with my dog?

The cottage takes a maximum of two dogs, and the enclosed garden with a picnic bench gives them a safe space to come and go through the day. The underfloor heating is a practical bonus — wet coats dry where the dog is already lying rather than needing a dedicated drying spot. Nearby, Stanton Moor (3.2 miles away) offers open gritstone heather moorland, and Bradford Dale at Youlgreave has a clear limestone stream running through it, both good options for a proper off-lead walk.
