Somebody cut double doors into the main bedroom and hung a balcony off the front of the house, which is why the best view in it belongs to whoever is asleep. Sea View stands on the promenade at Heysham looking out over Morecambe Bay, dog friendly and sleeping nine, with three dogs allowed and an enclosed yard behind it. The beach in front takes dogs the whole year.
The entrance hall has room to deal with sand before any of it reaches the house. A bright lounge sits to the left with a snug behind it and doors onto the front decking, and the kitchen and dining room along the hall carries a table the whole party fits round. Five bedrooms and three bathrooms are stacked up the floors above, so nobody queues, and three dogs take the ground floor between them.
The bench on the front decking has been occupied since breakfast. Two of the dogs are down on the sand with somebody and the third stayed behind to supervise the bay from the rail. The barbecue is going in the yard round the back. Upstairs a balcony door has been opened and somebody is putting a question down to the promenade that nobody at street level can make out.
Morecambe's promenade runs from the door past the Stone Jetty and the statue of Eric Morecambe, with the whole bay in front and the Lakeland fells standing across it. Half Moon Bay and the ruined chapel above Heysham village lie a walk south. Lancaster is 6 miles inland with a castle and a hilltop memorial over its park. Dogs keep this sand all year, which is not true of most resort beaches.
