Side Farm Campsite is a quiet, dog friendly site in Patterdale at the southern end of Ullswater, overlooked by Place Fell and looking out towards the Helvellyn range. There are no advance bookings: campers book in at the tearoom or farm between 9am and 9pm and find a pitch, and in high season it pays to arrive early. Tents and dayvans are welcome, along with families and couples, and dogs are welcome too, with a nightly charge per dog.
Helvellyn by Striding Edge is within striking range, and St Sunday Crag, Fairfield and High Street are close, while gentler routes with a dog follow the lakeside footpath to Howtown, cross into Martindale or head up the valley towards Brothers Water. Ullswater is on the doorstep for watersports, with a regular launch between Glenridding, Howtown and Pooley Bridge. The White Lion and the Patterdale Hotel are a quarter of a mile away, and Glenridding, a mile off, has cafes, pubs and the Travellers Rest Inn.
