Book now

Open fields stretch out towards the Downs all around Stag Cottage, a converted barn in an attractive courtyard a short stroll from Godshill. Strolls and trails head out from the doorstep into Isle of Wight countryside of outstanding natural beauty, and this light, dog friendly barn sleeps four, with two dogs welcome alongside.

The ground floor is laid to laminate, ideal for slipping off boots after the woodland walks, and a spacious entrance hall with a striking exposed staircase leads on to a lovely kitchen/diner overlooking farmland. A large range cooker and a pretty dresser complete it. The cosy lounge has a large rug, wingback armchairs, an elegant fire surround with an LED flame effect fire, and lovely countryside views; after a day out, the dogs settle in there happily.

Upstairs, an open galleried landing leads to two charming doubles with exposed stone walls and ceiling beams, one with an en suite bathroom, plus a separate shower room. A sunny reading nook, a new addition, has a wingback armchair, books, magazines and a radio for quiet hours. Outside is a lovely enclosed lawn garden at the rear, reached from the front door and round the side, with a picnic bench for meals in the sunshine and room for the dogs to have a sniff around.

The village itself has tearooms, restaurants and pubs. Footpaths lead from the farm to Appuldurcombe House and join the Stenbury Trail, which carries on to Ventnor and its lovely beach, a fine walk with two dogs, while the sands of Shanklin and Sandown are only a short drive.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Stag Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Stag Cottage welcomes up to two dogs. It sits in a farm courtyard outside Godshill, with an enclosed lawn, field paths from the yard, and woodland walks leaving from the doorstep — so there's plenty to keep a dog happy without getting in the car.

  • Are dogs allowed at Stag Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but it's worth confirming directly with the owners when you book, particularly if you're travelling at a busy time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting Stag Cottage with my dog?

The enclosed garden is accessed by going out of the front door and around the side of the cottage — the owners mention this upfront, and it's worth bearing in mind before you book, especially if easy garden access is important to you. Inside, the ground floor is laminate throughout, which makes it practical for muddy paws after a walk. Two dogs are welcome, and the cottage sleeps four.
