Somebody built this row for the men who worked the line, and the line is still running past the end of it. Station Cottage is one of those cottages, on the edge of Winchelsea, a dog friendly stay sleeping four, fully enclosed garden at the back, one dog welcome. Railway terraces were put up narrow and put up to last, and this one has been opened out inside without losing that shape. The sea is south of the village.

Two bedrooms take four between them and a wood burner handles the evenings downstairs. The garden is fully enclosed, with seating out on the patio and a charcoal grill beside it, and being a back garden of the old railway kind it runs long rather than wide. That suits a dog with something to prove: a distance to cover, a fence at the end of it, and the whole thing repeatable at speed.

It fits four people, one dog, and a liking for flat country, because nearly everything in reach is flat: marsh, shingle, the old harbour ground behind the beach. You come back with sand through the car, the burner goes on, and the dog takes the warm end of the room by half past five and will not be reasoned with.

1.5 miles down the hill Winchelsea Beach runs as a long shingle bank with sand showing at low water and the levels flat behind it. The shore goes east towards the bay and west under the cliffs, open the whole way, which is a great deal of walking for a dog and very little effort for anybody. The town stands on its hill above and is worth the climb once.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Station Cottage - Winchelsea dog friendly?

Yes, Station Cottage welcomes one dog. It's a former railway cottage with a fully enclosed back garden — long and narrow in the old terraced style — which gives a dog plenty of room to run with secure fencing at the end.

  • Are dogs allowed at Station Cottage - Winchelsea year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the host directly to confirm availability for your dates. Winchelsea Beach nearby is open along the shore in both directions, which makes it a reasonable base whatever the season.

  • What should I know before visiting Station Cottage - Winchelsea with my dog?

The cottage accepts one dog, so it's not suited to multi-dog households. The garden is fully enclosed, and Winchelsea Beach — a long shingle bank with sand at low tide — is just 1.5 miles down the hill, with open walking east towards the bay and west under the cliffs. The surrounding country is mostly flat marsh and shingle, which is easy going for most dogs.
