Five stars, two wood burners and a hot tub with glorious, unspoilt Peak District views: The Cottage is a detached, recently refurbished dog friendly retreat at Longnor for six guests and two dogs, and an array of scenic walks begins on the doorstep.
You arrive straight into the stylish kitchen, with twin electric ovens, a wine cooler and a Nespresso coffee maker. It leads to the dining area, which has its own wood burner and a table for six, and on to the lounge, which seats six comfortably and has a Smart TV, plus wood burner number two. The dogs only have to decide which fire to lie beside. Downstairs there is also a bathroom, fitted with a bath and, separately, a shower.
Upstairs are three bedrooms: a four-poster king-size and a twin with zip-and-link beds, both with en-suite shower rooms, and a third king-size room. At the back, the large lawned garden is enclosed with dry stone walls and gated access, and it holds the hot tub, a fire pit, a table and chairs for six, and lawn games and a hammock in the shed. The dogs have the grass while you soak and look out towards the village of Longnor.
The historic spa town of Buxton is close by, with its Opera House, the Pavilion Gardens and the refurbished spa at the Buxton Crescent Hotel. For walking with the dogs there is a myriad of Peak District footpaths to discover, from a hike up Kinder Scout to an amble along the Manifold Trail, with the Tissington Trail for bikes and a wild swim at Three Shires Head for the adventurous.
