1 / 16The Hideaway
Kilve, Somerset
A studio annexe for two and one dog at Kilve in Somerset, with a large walled garden, a dog shower by the door, a wood burner and the Bristol Channel in view.
One dog, two people and a view across the Bristol Channel to Wales. The Hideaway is a dog friendly annexe at Kilve on the Somerset coast, one open studio with a double bed, a wood burner and a bath, set in the grounds of the owners' house but kept apart from it by a large walled garden of its own.
That garden is the reason to choose it. Walls go all the way round, the dog can be let out without a lead, and the terrace faces west over the fields and woods, so the evening arrives on it last. There are six steps between the levels. At the front there is a dog shower, which on this coast is not a luxury: Kilve's foreshore is shale and clay, and a dog comes back from it wearing a fair amount.
Inside it is one room doing everything. The bed and the burner share the space, the kitchen runs along one side with a coffee machine, and the table by the window doubles as a desk. There is no television, which is deliberate, and it suits the kind of stay this is: a walk, the bath, the burner lit and the dog stretched out in front of it.
The Quantock Hills start behind the house, with paths onto the heath straight from the door, and Kilve beach is a half hour on foot down the lane. It is a strange and wonderful shore at low water, ledges of rock striped in layers and full of fossils, and dogs are welcome on it all year. Dunster, with its castle and its medieval yarn market, is a short drive west.

Book with cottages.comFrequently Asked Questions
Is The Hideaway dog friendly?
Yes, The Hideaway is designed with dogs very much in mind. The annexe accommodates one dog alongside two people, and the large walled garden means your dog can roam freely off lead without you having to worry about them wandering off.
Are dogs allowed at The Hideaway year round?
Yes, dogs are welcome at The Hideaway throughout the year. Nearby Kilve beach is also dog friendly all year round, so you're never short of somewhere to take them whatever the season.
What should I know before visiting The Hideaway with my dog?
The walled garden is fully enclosed and great for off-lead time, but do note there are six steps between the different levels. Kilve's foreshore is shale and clay, so dogs tend to come back from the beach fairly muddy — handily, there's a dog shower right by the front door. The Quantock Hills are also accessible on foot directly from the property, giving you plenty of walking options beyond the beach.
