You arrive up stone steps with a stream running down beside them, which two dogs will investigate before anybody has found the key. Drovers walked cattle out of these valleys to the English markets and their old roads are still on the ground, which makes for honest walking with a dog. Tregaron is the market town, with a red kite centre and one of the largest raised bogs in Britain behind it. The Cambrian Mountains stand behind all of that, empty enough that two dogs can spend an afternoon off the lead without meeting anybody.
