The Old Pottery

Llanfair Clydogau, Ceredigion

A two bedroom cottage for four at Llanfair Clydogau with both bedrooms en-suite, an enclosed garden and four acres of woodland, stream and chickens beyond it, two dogs welcome.

There are chickens on the four acres here, and cats. That is the first thing two dogs will discover about The Old Pottery, which sleeps four at Llanfair Clydogau, dog friendly, with two en-suite bedrooms and its own enclosed garden inside the wider grounds. The enclosed part matters more here than it usually would, because everything with feathers lives on the other side of it.

You arrive up stone steps with a stream running down beside them, which two dogs will investigate before anybody has found the key. Inside there is no dividing wall anywhere on the ground floor, so cooking, eating and sitting all happen in the same room. Both bedrooms are king-size with their own shower room, so four people share nothing. The enclosed garden is paved, and the dining furniture and the BBQ live out on it.

Most of the four acres is not garden at all: woodland, a wildlife pond, the stream and the chickens working across the rest of it. Walk the whole of it on a lead and it fills twenty minutes. There is almost no light pollution out here either, so somebody ends up outside after dark far longer than they meant to, a dog beside them wondering at the delay.

Drovers walked cattle out of these valleys to the English markets and their old roads are still on the ground, which makes for honest walking with a dog. Tregaron is the market town, with a red kite centre and one of the largest raised bogs in Britain behind it. The Cambrian Mountains stand behind all of that, empty enough that two dogs can spend an afternoon off the lead without meeting anybody.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Old Pottery dog friendly?

Yes, The Old Pottery welcomes dogs — up to two are welcome to stay. The cottage has an enclosed garden for secure outdoor time, and four acres of woodland, stream and open ground beyond it to explore together.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Old Pottery year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, but nothing in the property details suggests dogs are limited to certain times of year. It's always worth confirming directly with the host when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting The Old Pottery with my dog?

The most important thing to know is that chickens and cats live on the wider four acres, so dogs need to be kept within the enclosed garden or walked on a lead beyond it. The enclosed garden itself is paved and secure, which helps a lot, but the boundary between that space and the rest of the grounds is where you'll want to be careful from the moment you arrive — there's a stream running down beside the entrance steps that tends to get dogs excited before you've even got the door open.
