Askrigg is a charming village in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and The Old Sorting Office is a beautifully refurbished house there for six guests and two dogs. It is a stylish, sociable dog friendly stay with two wood burners, and great walks and cycling start right from the doorstep.
The spacious hallway takes shoes and coats, and the utility off the dining area has plenty of storage for dog leads, wet coats and boots. The large kitchen and diner is stylish and contemporary, with an island beside one wood burner where somebody can perch with a coffee and keep the cook company, and a dining table looking out through floor to ceiling patio doors.
Back through the hall, the cosy lounge has the second wood burner, comfy seating and the television, and it is here both dogs settle once the walking is done. Upstairs, the three bedrooms show excellent attention to detail and personal extra touches: an en suite king, a double and a twin bedroom, and a family bathroom offering both bath and shower. Through the sliding doors, the bright, south facing enclosed garden is laid out with table, chairs, a built in charcoal BBQ and a hanging chair from which to admire the views of Nappa Scar and beyond.
Askrigg has a pub, a tearoom, a gallery and a shop, with a market cross and a parish church at the end of a main street lined with 18th and 19th century houses. Bainbridge, with its lovely village green, is nearby, and Hawes, home of the Wensleydale Creamery, makes a good day out. For the dogs, the Yorkshire Dales National Park has walks in every direction.
