The shaker style kitchen has a gas AGA and a breakfast area for planning the day over coffee, and beyond it the games room, with a wood burner, a pool table and board games, is a favourite with younger guests and with dogs in search of a warm spot.
Four bedrooms on the first floor all have TVs, one of them an en suite king-size, and the two second floor bedrooms have en suite bathrooms and exposed ceiling beams. Outside, a lawn lies to the front, and the large enclosed rear garden has a terrace, garden furniture, a summer house and a charcoal BBQ. Long evenings end out on the terrace, the dogs pottering round the garden while the coals die down.
Icklesham has cosy pubs and a quirky windmill that Paul McCartney once used as a recording studio. A short drive brings you to ancient Winchelsea and its pretty shingle beach, and Rye, a little beyond, is full of antique shops, boutiques and historic pubs, with Rye Nature Reserve close by. Past Rye stretches the long golden beach at Camber Sands, and the dogs have the 1066 walk waiting whenever you get back.
