1 / 24The Old Vicarage - Icklesham
Icklesham, Sussex
A six bedroom vicarage for twelve at Icklesham near Winchelsea, with a large enclosed rear garden, a games room and two dogs welcome.
Six bedrooms and five of them are kings. That is not a family house, it is a house for six couples, and the sixth room zips apart into a twin if the arithmetic changes. The Old Vicarage is a dog friendly stay for twelve at Icklesham, a large enclosed garden out behind, a summer house standing in the corner and two dogs welcome. Hastings is over the hill to the west.
Four bathrooms serve the twelve, three of them en-suite, with a separate WC downstairs. A gas AGA runs the kitchen, a games room carries a pool table for the stretch of evening nobody planned, and the garden behind is large, enclosed and terraced, with a lawn out at the front as well. Two dogs in a house carrying this many doors will identify the one that leads outside inside the hour.
Twelve adults is a different holiday from twelve people. Nobody is being put to bed, everybody cooks at some point, the AGA stays on, and the pool table settles arguments that would otherwise run all night. Two dogs work the rooms all evening being handed things they should not be having, and finish asleep in the kitchen, because that is the warmest floor in an old vicarage and always has been.
Hastings old town is 6 miles west and is worth the drive. The fishing fleet still launches straight off the shingle there, the tall black net huts have stood on the Stade for centuries, and the beach on either side takes dogs and boats without minding either. Closer to the house the ridge drops away to the marsh, which is the flat option, and the ground between is orchard and old hop country.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is The Old Vicarage - Icklesham dog friendly?
Yes, The Old Vicarage welcomes up to two dogs. It's a substantial six-bedroom house with a large enclosed rear garden, so there's plenty of space for dogs to move around freely, and the kitchen — traditionally the warmest room in an old vicarage — tends to be where they end up at the end of the day.
Are dogs allowed at The Old Vicarage - Icklesham year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but it's worth confirming directly with the property when you book, particularly if you're planning a visit in the quieter months.
What should I know before visiting The Old Vicarage - Icklesham with my dog?
The house allows a maximum of two dogs, so it's not suitable for groups bringing more than that. The enclosed rear garden is a practical plus for keeping dogs secure, and the surrounding area offers good walking country — the ridge drops down to the flat marsh, and Hastings old town is about 6 miles west, where the beach welcomes dogs alongside the fishing fleet.
