Between this cottage and the sea there is a bird reserve, and the track that crosses it is the walk to the beach. The Roost is a dog friendly cottage in Titchwell, four sleeping in two bedrooms, a burner in the main room, one dog welcome, and a fully enclosed lawn out behind. It stands in the village rather than out on the coast road.

The front door opens off the pavement straight into the main room, the old village arrangement, which means a dog arrives in the middle of the house instead of through a hall. Past the kitchen the bathroom sits at ground level and has a bath rather than a cubicle, settling in advance where a sandy animal gets dealt with. Two bedrooms sit above, a king and a twin, the twin looking down over the garden.

Out through the kitchen a patio takes the furniture, with lawn beyond it, fully enclosed, so the lead comes off at the back door and not at a gate. The burner takes the evening and its opening basket of logs is already in the house. A dog that has spent a morning on a lead among rare birds gets that lawn to make up for it.

Titchwell's beach lies a mile out along a track through reedbed, freshwater lagoon and saltmarsh, all of it reserve and busy with birds, so a dog goes out on a lead and the sand at the far end is where the lead comes off. It is wide, with a long tide and hardly anybody on it, and the coast path runs both ways from the same point.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Roost - Norfolk dog friendly?

Yes, The Roost welcomes one dog. The cottage has a fully enclosed lawn where your dog can run off-lead straight from the back door, and a ground floor bathroom with a bath — handy for washing off sand and saltmarsh after a day out on the coast.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Roost - Norfolk year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the setup — enclosed garden, ground floor bath, wood burner — suits a dog-friendly stay in any season.

  • What should I know before visiting The Roost - Norfolk with my dog?

The route to Titchwell's beach runs for about a mile through an RSPB reserve — reedbed, freshwater lagoon and saltmarsh — so dogs need to be on a lead for that stretch. The beach itself is wide and quiet with a long tide, and that's where the lead comes off. Back at the cottage, the front door opens straight into the main room rather than a hallway, so your dog will be in the heart of the house from the moment you arrive.
