This detached traditional stone barn stands in its own grounds surrounded by farmland, in England but right on the border with Wales, and it makes a dog friendly haven for four people and one dog on the fringes of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
The large front door opens into open-plan living under vaulted ceilings with original exposed beams. A raised lounge area has large, comfortable seating in front of a free-standing wood burner, with wooden floors and big picture windows full of countryside, and the fireside is usually the dog's before anyone has unpacked. The dining table seats six and takes centre stage, with the contemporary kitchen set to the side.
The king-size bedroom is a peaceful retreat with large windows onto the open fields and its own en-suite, and up the stairs a twin room sits within the eaves, its shuttered windows framing the views. A mezzanine on that floor looks over the living space, somewhere to escape with a novel while the dog sleeps on downstairs. Outside, breakfast happens at the patio table, the BBQ is ready for supper, the views across to the Black Mountains are something to behold, and the garden is enclosed.
The villages of Pandy and Longtown both have good village pubs, the Skirrid and the Sugar Loaf are close by, and the Offa's Dyke path leads deeper into the countryside, so there is serious walking for the dog. This is a dark skies area too, so turning off the lights brings amazing stargazing.
