The Tottie Hut

Winchburgh, West Lothian

A shepherd's hut for two in a private orchard near Queensferry, with its own enclosed garden, a wood fired hot tub and a sauna across the grass, two dogs welcome.

Book now

The Tottie Hut stands by itself in an orchard. The orchard belongs to a working equestrian centre of 60 acres, and the hut has been given a secluded, fully enclosed garden of its own inside it, which is a rare thing to find in a dog friendly hut this close to a city. Two dogs are welcome and the enclosed ground is theirs.

It is one open room finished to a five star standard: a king size bed at one end, kitchen and dining at the other, comfortable chairs and a Smart TV between them, and a proper shower room rather than the compromise these huts usually ask you to accept. Outside on the enclosed ground there is a Weber, a bistro set and a fire pit, with a wood fired hot tub alongside. The sauna sits a short walk over the orchard, past the horses, dogs on a lead for that stretch.

Picture the far end of a day. The fire pit going, the hot tub heating on its own wood, horses shifting about in the paddocks somewhere beyond the fence, two dogs flat out on the grass with the last of the light on them. Edinburgh is 7 miles away and entirely irrelevant by that hour.

For all the seclusion the position is unusually well connected. Binny Craig lifts out of the fields 3.7 miles off, a short sharp climb with the Forth laid out from the top, and Beecraigs spreads its woodland and lochs beyond it. South Queensferry and the three bridges are a short run north, with the Fife Coastal Path over the water. The dogs come out of this week better than anybody.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Tottie Hut dog friendly?

Yes, The Tottie Hut welcomes up to two dogs. The hut sits within a private enclosed garden inside a 60-acre equestrian centre, which means your dogs have secure, fenced outdoor space entirely to themselves — a genuinely rare find for a shepherd's hut this close to a city.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Tottie Hut year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and nothing in the description suggests otherwise. If you're planning a visit at a particular time of year, it's worth confirming directly with the owners to be certain.

  • What should I know before visiting The Tottie Hut with my dog?

The one thing to bear in mind is that the sauna is a short walk across the orchard, past the horses, and dogs need to be kept on a lead for that stretch given the working equestrian centre around you. Beyond that, the enclosed garden is yours to use freely, and there's plenty of walking country nearby — Binny Craig is 3.7 miles away and Beecraigs Country Park is within easy reach too.
