The barn stands at the head of the farm on slightly rising ground, which is why the view out of it runs uninterrupted across open country to the hills. The Wheatsheaf Barn sleeps eight at Redmarley, five star and dog friendly, in a restored building that has kept its original framework and its exposed brick. Two dogs are welcome. What makes it work outdoors is that there are two separate spaces and they are on opposite sides of the building.
One side has a private terrace with a table on it, which is where eight people eat. The other side is a secure fully enclosed garden, which is where two dogs go. Having them apart means nobody is negotiating over the same square of ground, and a dog let out after supper is not immediately under the table. Four bedrooms and three bathrooms handle the rest, and a burner takes care of the late part of the evening.

The ridge west of here is the Malverns, a nine mile spine of some of the oldest rock in England standing straight up out of flat country on both sides. The Worcestershire Beacon is the high point, 4.3 miles off, and the path along the top runs the whole length with the Cotswolds on one side and Wales on the other. Two dogs get open grass and a great deal of sky.
