Tinkler Beck Cottage stands on a country estate just above the shores of Coniston Water, with direct access through the grounds to the estate's own private lake shore. This dog friendly converted barn sleeps six and welcomes one dog during school term time, a lovely choice for a quieter week in the Lakes with the dog along.
The barn shares a courtyard with four other holiday homes, and opens from it into an entrance hall with a second door out to the private patio, a useful way in for a dog coming back from the garden. A bunk room under a sloping ceiling opens off the hall, as does the light filled kitchen, and beyond it the lounge has a woodburning stove set in a stone inglenook fireplace. That is where the dog settles once the walking is done. The king size room sits on the ground floor; a pretty twin, a shower room and a bathroom with a whirlpool bath take the floor above.
Outside, the sunny patio opens onto a large grassy walled garden, and from there the grounds carry on to the water's edge. The estate's lake shore, which every property here enjoys, is the place for picnics, paddling and fishing for tiddlers, with jetties to tie up to if you bring your own sailing boat. An evening stroll to the water with the dog ends the day.
Coniston village is just over a mile away, with shops, pubs, cafes and the Boating Centre, where the Victorian steam yacht Gondola takes trips on the lake. The western edge of Grizedale Forest is a short distance off with miles of trails for a dog, and the rugged Coniston Old Man range makes the backdrop to it all.
