1 / 24Tinkler Beck Cottage
Coniston, Cumbria
A converted barn for six on a small estate above Coniston Water, with a walled private garden, a woodburner and shared access to a private lake shore, one dog welcome in term time.
A dog is down through the grounds before anyone has opened a bag, out of the walled garden and straight to the edge of Coniston Water, which the estate keeps its own stretch of. Tinkler Beck Cottage is a converted barn standing on that estate, dog friendly outside the school holidays, one dog to a booking, and the shore at the bottom of the grounds is why you would choose it over the village.
The barn shares a courtyard with four other holiday homes and keeps its own walled garden behind it, grass and a sunny patio, separate from the shared ground. The king bedroom is on the ground floor, which suits an old dog as much as anybody avoiding a staircase at midnight. A bunk room under a sloping ceiling opens off the hall, a twin sits upstairs, and a woodburner is set into a stone inglenook in the lounge.
The estate is the thing being booked. A private garden for the dog, shared grounds and lake shore for everybody, jetties if a boat has come along, and grass enough between the houses that a day goes by without the car moving. Anyone planning a term time week in the Lakes with children and one dog will struggle to arrange it better than this.
Coniston village is just over a mile up the road, with shops, cafes and a boat hire centre on the water. The Old Man stands over the whole valley behind it and the paths onto the fell start from the village itself. Nearer the cottage the estate track makes an easy last walk of the day for a dog, with water waiting at the end.

Is Tinkler Beck Cottage dog friendly?
Yes, Tinkler Beck Cottage welcomes dogs. You'll have a private walled garden for your dog, plus access to the shared estate grounds and a private stretch of Coniston Water shore — all without leaving the property.
Are dogs allowed at Tinkler Beck Cottage year round?
Dogs are welcome outside of school holidays, so term time visits are the ones to plan for. If you're thinking of a Lakes week with children and a dog, that term time window is actually well suited to both.
What should I know before visiting Tinkler Beck Cottage with my dog?
The cottage accepts one dog per booking, so it's worth confirming that before you arrive. On the practical side, the king bedroom is on the ground floor, which is handy for older dogs, and the estate track near the cottage makes for an easy end-of-day walk with the lake waiting at the bottom.
