Book now

Malhamdale narrows above Airton and the road up stops being a through route, which keeps it quiet. Cove View is the accessible one of the barns at Town End Farm, and dog friendly and step free in one building is a rare pairing: level entry, wide doorways, a wet room with grab rails beside the kitchen, and a king bedroom on the ground floor. Six sleep across three bedrooms and two dogs are allowed.

The kitchen and diner is the first room, a farmhouse table in it and the wet room next door, which puts washing a dog and making breakfast four paces apart. The lounge is beyond, vaulted to the roof with patio doors filling one end, and the ground floor king lies off it. Above are a twin and a double under the beams, the double with an en-suite shower.

Any party where somebody would rather not take stairs is the one this suits, which covers plenty travelling with an older dog as well as an older relative. The ground floor holds a bedroom, the wet room, the kitchen and the lounge, so a week can happen on one level. Two more bedrooms sit above for anybody still climbing, and both dogs have the run of the level part.

Malham Cove is 3 miles up the dale and is what the barn is named for, but the ground behind it makes the better walk: a dry valley, then open limestone, then Malham Tarn on the top, a glacial lake on a bed of slate at 1,200 feet with a boardwalk down one side. Fountains Fell rises beyond. Leads through the sheep ground and a dog loose on the fell above it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Town End Farm - Cove View dog friendly?

Yes, Cove View welcomes up to two dogs and they have the run of the ground floor, which is fully level throughout. It's a particularly good fit if you're travelling with an older dog who'd rather skip the stairs, since the bedroom, wet room, kitchen and lounge are all on one level.

  • Are dogs allowed at Town End Farm - Cove View year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but it's worth checking directly with Town End Farm when you book to confirm availability and any current house rules.

  • What should I know before visiting Town End Farm - Cove View with my dog?

The wet room is handily positioned just off the kitchen — four paces apart, as the description puts it — so muddy paws and post-walk rinses are easy to deal with. Dogs should be kept on leads through the sheep ground around the farm, though they can go loose on the open fell above it, and Malham Tarn with its boardwalk is around three miles up the dale.
