Book now

Twenty One is a two bedroom dog friendly house for four at Westward Ho!, and the owner has been specific about the garden: securely enclosed, laid to decking and gravel, and meant for dogs to play in safely. Two are welcome, and the living room has patio doors that lead directly out onto it.

That makes the ground floor the centre of things. The living and dining area is open plan and full of light, the kitchen has everything in it for a proper family meal, and there is a separate toilet downstairs, so nobody is climbing the stairs with sand on their feet. Out through the doors the garden has seating and a table, and there are two steps within it, worth knowing for an older dog.

Upstairs the bedrooms are a king size double and a twin, with a family bathroom that has a shower over the bath. It is sized for a couple with two children, or two couples who are happy sharing, and it keeps the day simple. Dogs out first thing, beach by mid morning, back for lunch at the table while two dogs settle on the decking, and out again once the sand has cleared. A welcome pack with doggy extras and a stair gate are both provided.

The village is a short walk away, and the beach beyond it runs for miles, wide enough at low tide for a dog to run until it stops of its own accord. The South West Coast Path passes nearby, and Appledore's harbour, Clovelly's cobbled street and Bideford's quay make easy days out along this stretch of the north Devon coast.
