Ferryside, Carmarthenshire
A 150-year-old Welsh stone cottage for six at Ferryside, 150 metres from a sandy estuary beach that is dog friendly all year, with an open fire and four dogs welcome.
Ty Llwyd is a traditional Welsh stone cottage about 150 metres from the sea at Ferryside, across the Tywi Estuary from Llansteffan Castle, and the sandy beach near its front door is dog friendly all year round. Six guests and four dogs share this dog friendly cottage, 150 years old and full of character, with exposed stone walls, wooden floors and an open fire.
Through the front door, there is plenty of room in the entrance hall to kick off boots and hang up coats as four dogs come in off the sand. To the right is a cosy lounge where a large open fire faces the Smart TV, and to the left a spacious, bright dining room for meals and family board games, both connecting with the kitchen at the back. Downstairs there is also a WC and a separate shower room, ideal for sandy toes.
Up the stairs, the two double bedrooms at the front both enjoy partial sea views, one of them en suite, while the cosy twin overlooks the garden. At the back, an elevated patio with a dining set sits in the enclosed garden. Seating out front makes a great spot to sip a coffee as the morning breaks, the dogs lying at your feet waiting for the beach.
That walk is never far: the beach is metres away and welcomes the dogs whatever the month. Take the ferry boat across the River Towy to visit Llansteffan and hike up to the castle for marvellous views over farmland and the shimmering river. Ferryside itself is a seaside village with plenty of charm, and Carmarthen is 10 miles away.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Ty Llwyd dog friendly?
Yes, and generously so — up to four dogs are welcome at Ty Llwyd, which is unusually accommodating for a cottage sleeping six. There's an enclosed rear garden, a front patio, and the sea just 150 metres away, so dogs are well catered for inside and out.
Are dogs allowed at Ty Llwyd year round?
Yes, Ty Llwyd accepts dogs throughout the year, so there's no off-season restriction to work around. That makes it a solid option whether you're planning a summer beach week or a winter trip with the open fire to come back to.
What should I know before visiting Ty Llwyd with my dog?
The ground floor shower room sits handily between the back door and the stairs, which proves its worth when you're returning from the beach with sandy dogs — it's worth noting this is a feature, not an afterthought. The rear garden patio is raised and reached via a steep slope, so if any of your dogs are elderly or small-legged, the front patio is the easier option. You can bring up to four dogs in total.
