Ty Obrey is a spacious detached house set in rolling Welsh countryside near Cwmdu, with spectacular views of the Black Mountains from its wood fired hot tub. Six guests share three bedrooms here. Two medium sized dogs are welcome too, and with the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains right on hand it makes a fine dog friendly base.

Come in through the front door and you are in the kitchen/diner, the real heart of the home, with a range cooker and a coffee machine for the morning cup before the dogs are walked. A utility room sits off it on one side and a ground floor shower room on the other. Beyond is the spacious lounge, with double aspect windows and a warming wood burner that pulls the whole household close by nightfall, dogs leading the way.

The twin bedroom is next to the lounge, downstairs, while the family bathroom, a cosy double and a spacious twin take the first floor, all tastefully decorated. Outside, your own private patio and enclosed garden area have garden furniture, a BBQ and far reaching countryside views. Ending a long day on the hills in the hot tub, with the dogs stretched out nearby, is hard to beat.

Crickhowell, a lovely little town with two butchers, a bakers and a Post Office, is just a few miles away, and the literary town of Hay-on-Wye with its independent stores and book shops is a short drive. For days out there are Craig-y-Nos Country Park, the Brecon Mountain Railway and the National Show Caves of Wales, though with mountains this close most days with the dogs will begin with a walk.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Ty Obrey dog friendly?

Yes, Ty Obrey welcomes up to two dogs. The owners do specify that dogs should be medium sized rather than large, so it's worth bearing that in mind before you book.

  • Are dogs allowed at Ty Obrey year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to check directly with the owners when booking to confirm availability for your dates.

  • What should I know before visiting Ty Obrey with my dog?

The two-dog limit applies and both should be medium sized — the owners are clear on this rather than leaving it open to interpretation. There's a ground-floor twin bedroom with a shower room beside it, which is handy if your dog isn't keen on stairs. From the door, quiet lanes stretch out in almost every direction, so there's plenty of walking straight from the house.
