1 / 22Ty - Uchaf House On The Hill
Cwmdu, Powys
A spacious cottage on a working farm in the hills near Cwmdu, sleeping four plus one, with a wood burner, a good sized enclosed garden looking out to fields and two dogs welcome.
Set on a working farm in a fabulous hillside location, Ty Uchaf is a lovely spacious cottage surrounded by rolling Welsh countryside. Walkers have the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons on the doorstep, so this dog friendly base is one to cherish, and two dogs come along with their people.
The lounge/diner is the warm centre of things, with comfortable seating and a super wood burner that makes the cottage a cosy retreat at any time of year, and a dog curled up in front of it completes the picture. Through from the dining area, the well equipped kitchen looks out over fields, while the utility room, washing machine and all, copes with the muddy gear. Off the internal hall, a ground floor snug is a quiet corner for reading and can sleep one more adult, and there is a handy shower room on this floor as well.
Bedtime means heading up to the first floor, where Ty Uchaf keeps its king size and twin rooms along with a second bathroom. In the open air, the good sized enclosed garden has patio furniture and looks out to the fields, a pleasant place for the dogs to potter while the kettle goes on. Two dogs are welcome here, with golden retrievers the one breed the cottage does not accept.
The lovely town of Crickhowell, with its butchers, bakers and artisan shops, is close by, and Hay-on-Wye, famous for its books, is within a short drive. The National Show Caves of Wales, Craig-y-Nos Country Park and the South Wales Borders Museum all make good days out, though for most visitors with dogs the hills themselves are the draw.

Book with holidaycottages.co.ukFrequently Asked Questions
Is Ty - Uchaf House On The Hill dog friendly?
Yes, Ty Uchaf welcomes dogs — up to two at a time. The farmhouse has an enclosed garden where your dogs can roam freely, and there's serious walking country on the doorstep, including the Dragon's Back ridge that leads all the way to Waun Fach and Pen y Gadair Fawr.
Are dogs allowed at Ty - Uchaf House On The Hill year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to check directly with the property when booking. What's clear is that the setup — enclosed garden, working farm surroundings — is designed with dogs as a permanent consideration rather than an afterthought.
What should I know before visiting Ty - Uchaf House On The Hill with my dog?
There are a couple of important things to be aware of. First, golden retrievers are not accepted here — that's a firm rule specific to this property. Second, the garden is enclosed and separated from the working farm by a fence, and the gate between them really matters — the fields beyond belong to a working farm with livestock, so keeping dogs secure is essential.
