West Burton is one of the prettiest villages in Wensleydale, and Walden Cottage stands at its very heart, an easy walk from the village green. It is a traditional cottage with charm, character and a stylish finish, sleeping four with two dogs, and a dog friendly cottage for anyone who wants the Dales beginning at the doorstep.
The front door opens straight into the lounge, kitchen and diner, all one welcoming space. There is comfy seating gathered round the wood burner, an elegant dining area with a seat for everyone, and a utility room housing the washing machine and hanging space for coats, which is where the leads go when the dogs come back in from a walk.
Up the cottage stairs, both double bedrooms have period features and large windows with amazing views of the Yorkshire Dales, and the shower room has lighting with a real wow factor. Outside, through a gate, the enclosed rear garden faces south, set out with garden furniture for meals in the open and a view worth lingering over. After a day out it is where the dogs flop down in the sun while somebody brings the drinks round.
Scenic walks start from the doorstep, and the area's many walking routes carry the dogs further on through the Wensleydale countryside. Hawes and Askrigg are a short drive along the dale, and Leyburn, a thriving market town, makes a good morning out for a slice of Yorkshire life. The local pub is a leisurely stroll from the door for the end of the day.
