1 / 41Warren Farm
Cheddar, Somerset
A 1,000 acre Mendip farm running the length of Cheddar Gorge, with five canvas hideaways, a play fort and campfire sunsets, two dogs joining you on the lead.
Warren Farm stretches the length of Cheddar Gorge, 1,000 acres in the heart of the Mendips, and Kate and James's family have farmed it since 1945. Its wide open expanses have appeared in One Man and His Dog, Casualty and Poldark. This dog friendly farm welcomes two dogs, both on the lead while out on the farm, where hundreds of lambs arrive each May.
The canvas hideaways each have three bedrooms, a fully kitted kitchen and a wood burner, with no power supply, and for a bigger group the farm has an eight person tenthouse with a bath. Farmer's soup and stew kits arrive with the ingredients, firewood and recipe, so supper simmers on the stove while the dog dries off beside it.
With so much space the farm is a natural playground, and there is a real one too, with slides, swings and sandpits. Sit out in a deck chair with a book while the children play, take the tractor and trailer ride round the farm to learn about farming in the hills, and end the day round the campfire watching the Somerset sunset, with the dog at your feet.
The Cheddar Gorge walk takes around 2 hours and the Black Rock Nature Reserve walk is another fine choice, so a dog's legs will get plenty of use. Wookey Hole is nearby, Cheddar is home to the Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company, Weston-super-Mare is a 30 minute drive, and Bristol and Bath are 40 minutes away.

Book with Feather Down FarmsFrequently Asked Questions
Is Warren Farm dog friendly?
Yes, Warren Farm welcomes dogs — up to two per stay. The farm is home to sheep, lambs, goats, chickens and cattle, so dogs need to be kept on the lead everywhere on site. There's no enclosed garden, but the open Mendip hilltop right on the doorstep gives dogs plenty of space to explore on a long line.
Are dogs allowed at Warren Farm year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting Warren Farm directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the location is genuinely set up for dogs as part of the experience, not an afterthought.
What should I know before visiting Warren Farm with my dog?
The farm has livestock throughout — sheep, lambs, goats, chickens and cattle — so leads are required at all times on the property, and there's no enclosed garden to let them off in. That said, the open Mendip top starts right from the farm, and a dog on a long line up there gets a proper sense of the place. Cheddar Gorge is immediately below too, with steep climbs on either side that will give an energetic dog a very good day out.
