Waterside House is a family run, dog friendly campsite on the shores of Ullswater at the foot of Barton Fell. The same family has looked after it for five generations alongside a working farm of cattle and Swaledale sheep, and the atmosphere is laid back and relaxed. Two of the three camping fields sit on the lake's edge, and the pods and bell tents look out over the water. The farm's working dogs can often be seen playing in the lake with children and other dogs in their down time.
Visiting dogs are welcome on a lead or under control at all times and must not be left unattended, and the site asks that they do not disturb other guests, the livestock or the working dogs; it does not recommend bringing a dog that is in season. With Ullswater on the doorstep and a cafe and shop on site, this is a fine base for walking and paddling with a dog for company.
