1 / 13Well Cottage
Ceres, Fife
A weaver's cottage from 1780 for two in the conservation village of Ceres near St Andrews, with an open fire, a small enclosed garden and two dogs welcome.
Well Cottage was built in 1780 for a weaver, and it still has the red pantile roof and the small scale of those Fife cottages. It stands in the centre of Ceres, a conservation village a few miles from St Andrews, and it makes a dog friendly retreat for two people and two dogs.
Outside there is a small enclosed garden with a patio and a sitting out area with a table and chairs, and there are nine steps within it, which is worth knowing with a young puppy or an elderly dog. Indoors it is all on one level. The open plan room has an open fire, with the first fuel supplied, and the kitchen has a dishwasher. The king size bedroom has a bath with a shower over it for sandy dogs and their owners at the end of the day.
Ceres is a village for walking out of rather than driving through. Footpaths and cycle routes leave from the cottage door, the village green and the Fife Folk Museum are across the road, and the pub is within an easy stroll. Evenings go the same way: back with the dogs, the fire lit, a glass of wine, and the village quiet outside.
St Andrews is the nearest town, with the long West Sands for a dog walk by the sea, and the fishing villages of the East Neuk, Crail and Anstruther and Pittenweem, lie along the coast to the south with the Fife Coastal Path linking them. Falkland and the Lomond Hills are close for a day inland.

Book with cottages.comFrequently Asked Questions
Is Well Cottage dog friendly?
Yes, Well Cottage welcomes up to two dogs. It's a genuine retreat for both people and dogs, with a small enclosed garden outside and a king size bedroom with a bath and shower — handy for rinsing off after muddy walks.
Are dogs allowed at Well Cottage year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, and nothing in the details suggests dogs are limited to certain times of year. It's worth confirming directly with the owner when you book, particularly if you're planning a visit in peak season.
What should I know before visiting Well Cottage with my dog?
The enclosed garden has nine steps within it, which is worth bearing in mind if you have a young puppy or an older dog with mobility issues — indoors, though, everything is on one level. Footpaths lead straight from the cottage, and the coast, the Fife Coastal Path and the Lomond Hills are all within easy reach for days out.
