Walks lead straight from the door of Willow Cottage up into the surrounding hills of the Black Mountains. This beautiful, single level barn conversion at Pengenffordd is a dog friendly escape for a family or a couple, with exposed stone walls, character beams throughout, an enclosed garden and a welcome for two dogs.

Contemporary styling sits alongside rustic, traditional touches, with muted, elegant interiors and splashes of vibrant colour against the stonework. The modern kitchen is fully equipped, and the dining table has plenty of seating and double doors opening into the garden, which lets the dogs wander out for fresh air at mealtimes too. The bright, cosy living room has no shortage of places to stretch out, and when the evening draws in the wood burner is lit and a film goes on.

The master bedroom has a solid oak king-size bed and a door out onto the terrace, alongside a twin room, and the large bathroom has a spacious walk-in shower, all of it warmed by underfloor heating. Outside, the enclosed garden has a lawned area and decking with furniture, a BBQ and reclining chairs, and the two dogs can potter on the grass while you relax. A few metres away, the games barn has pool, snooker, table tennis, darts and even a piano.

The village cafe is 2 miles down the lane, and Talgarth, 5 miles away, has a working mill and bakery with a riverside cafe, an award-winning butcher and independent shops. From Llangattock the restored canal towpath makes a relaxing amble with the dogs, while Pen y Fan, the Sugar Loaf, the Blorenge and Table Mountain are there for the hill climbers.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Willow Cottage - Pengenffordd dog friendly?

Yes, Willow Cottage welcomes dogs — up to two are listed as welcome. The cottage is all on one level, so your dogs can move freely between rooms without stairs, and the garden is fully enclosed with lawn and decking, making it a genuinely easy place to be with dogs rather than just a technically dog-friendly one.

  • Are dogs allowed at Willow Cottage - Pengenffordd year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given the nature of the property and its rural Powys setting, it's well suited to visits at any time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting Willow Cottage - Pengenffordd with my dog?

The enclosed garden is level and fenced all the way round, which is genuinely useful on a hillside, and the double doors from the dining room mean inside and outside feel connected. Walking-wise, you can reach Mynydd Troed from the door in under half an hour, and the circuit with Mynydd Llangorse is open common with no stiles or gates — good, open ground for two dogs to roam for hours.
