Winchelsea, Sussex
A three bedroom house for six at Winchelsea with a fully enclosed garden, open fires in two rooms and one dog welcome, up on the old town hill.
Winchelsea was set out on a grid in the thirteenth century, up on a hill, after the sea carried the old town away, and it is among the smallest places in England still called one. Winchelsea Haven stands inside that grid, six sleeping across three bedrooms, dog friendly, fully enclosed garden behind, one dog welcome. Medieval cellars run under the houses. The beach is a mile downhill.
Six sleep between two kings and a twin, and a utility room carries a second WC beyond the bathroom, which at this many people keeps a morning civil. Open fires sit at both ends of the house, lounge and kitchen, and a first basket of logs comes with them. Out at the back the garden is fully enclosed, seating on the patio, a charcoal grill beside it, and a single dog owns the lot.
One dog at six people is a modest allowance and worth checking against the party before anybody books. In exchange the house stands in a town nobody drives through, because Winchelsea is not on the way to anywhere and whatever traffic arrives came looking for it. A dog gets empty streets and a churchyard the size of a small field to be led round.
Back up on the hill the town keeps three medieval gates standing out in open ground, marking where Winchelsea was meant to grow to and never did, which makes an odd and very quiet circuit with a dog on a lead. The streets run straight because somebody drew them that way. Below it all the land falls off to shingle and marsh.

Is Winchelsea Haven dog friendly?
Yes, Winchelsea Haven welcomes one dog. The house has a fully enclosed garden at the back with patio seating, so your dog has a secure space to roam freely. Out in the town itself, quiet streets and a large churchyard make for easy, pleasant walks on the lead.
Are dogs allowed at Winchelsea Haven year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and with open fires at both ends of the house and an enclosed garden, it's well set up for a visit at any time of year. If you're planning around a particular season, it's worth confirming directly with the property.
What should I know before visiting Winchelsea Haven with my dog?
The key thing to know is that only one dog is permitted, so if your group is bringing more than one it's worth checking before you book. On the plus side, Winchelsea is a genuinely quiet town that sits off the main roads, so you're looking at empty streets, a large churchyard, and medieval gate walks rather than busy traffic. The beach is about a mile downhill from the house if you fancy a longer outing.
