A plaque on the wall of Y Bwthyn records that Dewi Emrys lived here, the preacher and poet who won the Chair at the National Eisteddfod four times. It is a semi-detached stone cottage in the village of Talgarreg, inland from Cardigan Bay, restored by its owners as a dog friendly holiday home with room for two small dogs.

Inside, the old stonework and beams have been left on show, and the living room has a multi-fuel burner with fuel for the first fire. The kitchen and dining room are a step down, bright and modern, with a coffee machine. Upstairs the main bedroom, with a king size bed, has its own toilet, and the second room has two singles meant for children, with stairgates at both ends of the stairs if the dogs need keeping to one floor.

The garden is enclosed and looks out over the fields, and it is where two small dogs can be left to nose about. A raised terrace, three steps up with a handrail, takes the table and chairs. It is the place for the first coffee of the day, the dogs on the grass below and red kites turning slowly over the fields beyond.

The Cardigan Bay coast is about fifteen minutes away. New Quay has its harbour and boat trips out to look for dolphins, Aberaeron its painted houses round the quay, and Llangrannog and Tresaith are small sandy coves under the cliffs. Two small dogs will find the country lanes around Talgarreg quiet enough to walk at any hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Y Bwthyn dog friendly?

Yes, Y Bwthyn welcomes up to two small dogs. The cottage has an enclosed garden where they can roam freely, and the quiet country lanes around Talgarreg make for relaxed walks at any time of day.

  • Are dogs allowed at Y Bwthyn year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and the cottage is set up with year-round stays in mind — the multi-fuel burner and enclosed garden make it a comfortable base whatever the season. It's always worth confirming directly with the owners if you're planning a winter visit.

  • What should I know before visiting Y Bwthyn with my dog?

Y Bwthyn is suited to two small dogs, so it's worth bearing that in mind if you have larger or more than two dogs. Stairgates are fitted at both ends of the stairs if you need to keep the dogs to one floor, and the enclosed garden means they can be left to explore outside safely. The Cardigan Bay coast, with beaches at Llangrannog and Tresaith, is around fifteen minutes away for longer walks.
