Exmouth to Budleigh Salterton Coastal Walk
Devon
This dog friendly East Devon walk follows the South West Coast Path east from Exmouth's long sandy seafront, climbing through Orcombe Point and the Geoneedle marker that opens the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, then rolling along low red cliffs to Sandy Bay, West Down Beacon and the pebble shore at Budleigh Salterton. The route gives wide views over Lyme Bay, with skylarks over the heath in summer and the Otter estuary appearing at the eastern end.
Dogs are welcome on the coast path year round, but the busy main beaches at Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton enforce a seasonal dog ban from 1 May to 30 September, with quieter dog-friendly stretches still available east of the Lime Kiln car park towards Otter Head. Keep dogs on a lead near the cliff edges as rabbits are abundant, and watch for cyclists and runners on the shared path. There are toilets, cafes and large pay-and-display car parks at both ends, plus a bus link back from Budleigh Salterton.
