Sidmouth to Ladram Bay Coastal Walk
Devon
This dog friendly Jurassic Coast walk leaves Sidmouth's Regency esplanade, climbs Peak Hill onto the cliff top and then crosses High Peak with its Iron Age hillfort earthworks, before dropping through Otterton Common to the dramatic red sandstone sea stacks at Ladram Bay. The views over Lyme Bay are wide all the way, and the route stitches together woodland, gorse-and-bracken cliff top and a holiday park finish on the pebble cove.
Dogs are welcome along the whole route and the main concern is keeping them under close control on the cliff edges, especially around High Peak where unfenced drops appear suddenly. Sidmouth's town beach has a seasonal dog ban from 1 May to 30 September on the central section, but Jacob's Ladder and the eastern town beach remain dog friendly year round. Pay and display parking is available on the seafront in Sidmouth, and Ladram Bay Holiday Park charges non-residents £5 to use the car park at the eastern end.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Sidmouth to Ladram Bay Coastal Walk dog friendly?
Yes, dogs are welcome along the entire route, which earns a solid 8 out of 10 on our dog friendly rating. The walk takes you from Sidmouth's seafront over High Peak and down to the red sandstone sea stacks at Ladram Bay, with varied terrain that most dogs will love. Just bear in mind that Sidmouth's central town beach has a seasonal dog ban from 1 May to 30 September, though Jacob's Ladder and the eastern town beach stay open to dogs all year round.
Can dogs be off lead at Sidmouth to Ladram Bay Coastal Walk?
There's good off-lead potential on stretches of this walk, but the cliff top sections — particularly around High Peak — require real caution. Unfenced drops appear suddenly in places, so keeping your dog under close control on the cliff edges is strongly advised. The woodland and more open inland sections offer safer opportunities to give your dog a bit more freedom.
What should I know before visiting Sidmouth to Ladram Bay Coastal Walk with my dog?
The route covers cliff tops, woodland, gorse and bracken, and finishes at Ladram Bay Holiday Park, so it's worth coming prepared for varied terrain. Sidmouth seafront has cafes, pubs, toilets and ice cream, and there's a bar and shop at Ladram Bay at the far end. Parking is pay and display on Sidmouth Esplanade or at Manor Road, and if you're finishing or starting at Ladram Bay, non-residents pay £5 to use the holiday park car park.
