Lincoln Cathedral and the River Witham Walk
Lincolnshire
Dog friendly with the cathedral as its backdrop, this circular takes in the cobbled Bailgate, the steep descent of Steep Hill and the bustling Brayford Pool waterfront before following the River Witham east along a gentle surfaced riverside path. The return climbs back up towards the cathedral through the Lincoln Arboretum, giving a satisfyingly varied city loop with plenty to stop and look at.
Dogs are welcome throughout and can be off-lead on the quieter riverside stretches east of Stamp End; leads are needed through the city centre, the Arboretum and across road crossings. Paths are surfaced throughout with some cobbled sections and one short stiff climb back up Steep Hill. Parking is best at the pay-and-display options around Westgate or the cathedral quarter, and there are full facilities throughout the city.
