Tealby Lincolnshire Wolds Circular
Lincolnshire
Tealby sits on the western edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, a handsome village of ironstone cottages that was voted Lincolnshire's best-kept village and provides the starting point for this 8km circular through the rolling countryside. The route climbs steadily onto the Wolds ridge, following field paths and quiet lanes with open views across the Ancholme valley and the Lincoln Edge beyond. The Wolds have a gentle, undulating character quite unlike the flat fenland further south, and the farmland is a patchwork of arable crops, pasture and hedgerow-lined lanes. With 179 metres of climbing spread across gentle gradients, the walking is easy but never flat.
Off-lead potential on this dog friendly walk is limited as the route crosses working farmland where livestock is present, so leads should be kept on through the pastoral fields. The hedgerow-lined lanes and field margins carry good scent from wildflowers, crop edges and damp earth. Water sources are scarce on the Wolds ridge, so carry a supply. The paths can be muddy after rain, particularly on the clay field crossings. Tealby has the King's Head pub which welcomes dogs and makes a natural start and finish point, and the village tea rooms are also dog-friendly. Parking is available in the village. A walk that reveals the quiet, underappreciated charm of the Lincolnshire Wolds.
