Mynydd Bodafon Summit Walk
North Wales
Mynydd Bodafon is the highest point on Anglesey at 178 metres, a modest summit by any measure but one that rewards with panoramic views across the island to Snowdonia, the Irish Sea and Puffin Island. The 4.8km circuit climbs through farmland on grassy tracks before breaking onto the rocky summit area, where exposed granite tors create a miniature mountain landscape. The rock formations have a sculptural quality, weathered into shapes that feel almost deliberate, and the views from the top encompass virtually the entire island. It's a short walk with a genuine sense of arrival at the summit.
This is a compact dog friendly walk that suits dogs of varying fitness levels, with just 187 metres of climbing spread across gentle gradients. Off-lead potential is limited as the route crosses working farmland where livestock is regularly present, so leads should be kept on through the lower fields. The summit area is more open and allows some freedom. Water sources are scarce on the upper hill, so carry a supply. The rocky terrain on the summit requires reasonable paw confidence. Parking is available at an informal layby near the start. The walk can be combined with a visit to nearby Lligwy burial chamber or the hidden church at Llanallgo for a fuller day on Anglesey's quieter eastern side.
