Raglan Castle and the River Usk Walk
Monmouthshire
Raglan Castle is one of the great late medieval fortresses of Wales, a vast ruin of moss-covered towers and curtain walls cared for by Cadw. This dog friendly circular walk pairs a visit to the castle with the soft Monmouthshire countryside that surrounds it, dropping down to the meandering River Usk and back through quiet farm lanes and the small village of Raglan.
This is a relaxed, mostly level walk on field paths, quiet lanes and riverbank meadow, ideal for a family or older dog. Dogs on short leads are welcome to the ground floor levels of the castle, and the Cadw site has water bowls and dog friendly grounds. Watch for sheep and cattle in the meadows along the river and keep dogs on the lead through any livestock fields. There is a large free car park at the castle, and the village has dog friendly pubs including the Beaufort Arms for a post walk meal.
