Two megalithic burial chambers on the North Downs above the Medway, free and open, with the North Downs Way running past for a real walk with your dog.
These are the bones of two Neolithic tombs, stripped back to their stone skeletons. Kit's Coty House is the more impressive: three massive upright sarsens carrying an enormous capstone, standing in a field on the slope of the North Downs. Little Kit's Coty, a few hundred metres away and known as the Countless Stones, has collapsed into a jumble supposedly impossible to count the same way twice.
Whilst you take in two chambers that once sat inside long barrows, the covering mounds long gone, your dog gets the setting, which is what makes this a decent stop: they sit on the Medway valley slope with wide views, and the North Downs Way runs directly past, so you can build a real walk around them rather than just pulling over.
Free and open at all times. Kit's Coty is enclosed by railings to protect it, so you view rather than touch. No dog rules are published, and both monuments sit in working farmland reached by field paths, so keep your dog on a lead, watch for livestock and close gates. Roadside parking only, and it is tight.
