A Palladian villa in sixty-six acres of Thames-side parkland, free to walk, and one of the very few sites where your dog can be off the lead.
Marble Hill is the last complete survivor of the villas and gardens that once lined the Thames between Richmond and Hampton Court. The house holds conserved Georgian interiors and the story of Henrietta Howard, royal mistress and society hostess, who built it as a place she owned outright at a time when that was close to unheard of for a woman.
Whilst you look round the villa, the restored pleasure gardens and the nine pin bowling alley, your dog gets something rare in the English Heritage portfolio: sixty acres of riverside parkland where they are currently allowed off lead under close supervision. There is real room to stretch out, with open meadow, mature woodland and deep leaf litter, and the cool river smell off the Thames along the southern edge. The park is free, with a charge only for the house, so the best part costs nothing.
