Osterley Park Long Estate Walk
London
Osterley Park surrounds Osterley House, a Georgian mansion remodelled by Robert Adam in the 1760s, and the surrounding 140 hectares of landscaped park, grazed by a herd of Charolais cattle that dogs pass on a lead, were laid out with sweeping lawns, avenues of trees and a chain of ornamental lakes. The Long Estate Walk, a circular route of about 3.4km, follows the wider parkland paths past both the eastern and western lakes, through woodland belts and open grassland that keep the land looking much as it did in the 18th century. The going is flat and easy throughout on well-maintained gravel and grass paths, and the walk can be shortened using the shorter Osterley Trail if needed.
This is a dog friendly National Trust property with genuinely good off-lead space once away from the house and cafe, where leads are required. Dogs can swim in the lakes, though the free-roaming wildfowl mean some restraint is needed, and the grazing Charolais cattle across the parkland call for a lead or close control whenever they are near the path. The formal gardens are closed to dogs in spring and summer, reopening for dogs during the National Trust's winter walkies period. The Stableyard cafe welcomes dogs, with treats available for four-legged visitors, and there is a National Trust car park on site, free for members and pay and display for others.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Osterley Park Long Estate Walk dog friendly?
Yes, Osterley Park scores 8 out of 10 for dog friendliness. Dogs can go off lead across most of the parkland once away from the house and cafe, swim in the lakes, and are even welcomed into the Stableyard cafe, though the caveat is grazing Charolais cattle across the estate, which need a lead or close control.
Can dogs be off lead at Osterley Park Long Estate Walk?
Yes, dogs can go off lead across most of the open parkland and woodland once clear of the area around the house, courtyard and cafe, where leads are required. Keep a lead or close control near the grazing Charolais cattle and be mindful of the free-roaming wildfowl on the lakes if your dog swims there.
What should I know before visiting Osterley Park Long Estate Walk with my dog?
Charolais cattle graze throughout the parkland, so keep dogs on lead or under close control when livestock are nearby, and use a lead near the house, courtyard and cafe. The formal gardens are closed to dogs in spring and summer. Parking is in the National Trust car park, free for members, and the Stableyard cafe welcomes dogs.
