One of the loveliest free sites in the country, and it barely gets a mention. Minster Lovell Hall stands in ruins beside the River Windrush: a fine hall, a south west tower still rising to full height, and enough of the plan to walk through the rooms. It was the home of Lord Lovell, Richard III's close ally, who vanished after the Battle of Stoke in 1487. Legend has it he hid in a vault here and was accidentally sealed in.
As you walk the hall and find the complete medieval dovecote behind it, viewable from the outside, your dog gets close to perfect ground: flat riverside meadow, the Windrush running clear and shallow alongside, mature trees, and a footpath network through the village and along the valley.
Free and open during any reasonable daylight hours. There is nothing published on dogs for this site, so keep your dog on a lead near the ruins and mind the river bank. Parking is in the village, and the walk down past the church is part of the pleasure. No facilities on site, but the village has a pub.
