A Neolithic dolmen nearly nine feet high, free and open, with Bodmin Moor and the Hurlers minutes away to turn it into a real walk with your dog.

Known locally as the giant's house, and you can see why. Trethevy Quoit is a well preserved and genuinely imposing Neolithic dolmen burial chamber standing 2.7 metres high, with five standing stones supporting a huge capstone that sits at a dramatic tilt. There is a hole in the capstone whose purpose is still argued over. It would originally have been covered by an earth mound, long since gone, leaving the stone skeleton standing in a field on the edge of Bodmin Moor.

Whilst you take in the tilt and the scale, your dog is on a short stop in a small enclosure, so the location is what matters: St Cleer sits right below Bodmin Moor, with the Hurlers, the Cheesewring and miles of open moorland walking a few minutes away.

Free and permanently open. No dog rules are published for the site. It is reached through a field gate in a residential lane with grazing nearby, so keep your dog on a lead and close gates. Toilets, shops and a pub are a short drive away in St Cleer.
