A granite well house of around 1500 over a spring once thought to cure whooping cough, on a working farm, so leads on throughout with your dog.
A genuinely odd survival, and almost nobody goes. Dupath Well is a small granite well house built around 1500 by the Augustinian canons of St Germans Priory, standing over an ancient spring long believed to cure whooping cough. Inside are the remains of an immersion pool where people seeking a cure would get into the water. It is a complete little building rather than a ruin, with a pitched stone roof and a corner pinnacle.
While you look over five hundred years of intact stonework, your dog needs closer handling here than at most sites, because this is a working farm. Follow the brown signs from the A388, and the well sits off Dupath Lane on a grassy area beside a narrow footpath that can be uneven.
There are no posted dog rules here, and given the farm, keep your dog on a lead throughout without exception, close gates behind you and be prepared for livestock nearby. There are no facilities of any kind. It is a ten minute stop on a drive rather than a walk, but a memorable one, and it costs nothing.
